Just a Southern Girl

Hello everyone! How are you?
We took these photos a few days ago when I went for a walk with my boyfriend. It was one of those transitioning days, grey sky but still warm, so I decided to wear my favorite summery dress that I have already showed you guys here and here. This time I matched it with a denim shirt (this is one of the pieces that I wear the most, it looks great with everything) and some boots. The overall look gave me like a texas vibe so you could say that in that day I was just a southern girl...! ;)

Tirámos estas fotos há uns dias atrás quando fui dar um passeio com o meu namorado. Era um daqueles dias estranhos, cinzento mas com calor, então decidi usar o meu vestido de verão favorito, que já vos mostrei aqui e aqui. Desta vez combinei-o com uma camisa de ganga (deve ser das peças que mais uso no meu armário, fica bem com tudo!) e umas botas. O look no geral fez-me lembrar o Texas então pode-se dizer que neste dias era uma rapariga do Sul...! ;)

Hi everyone! Today I bring you a different kind of post, I have been nominated by Marlene of Inspirations with M (By the way, check out her amazing blog!) for a challenge were I have to share 7 random facts about me.

So here they are:

1.     I’m a major nerd, I love reading adventure and science fiction books and have been introduced to computer games by my boyfriend and now I play with him

2.     I wear glasses, but hate to see myself with them. I put contacts everyday and only wear glasses at home

3.     I don’t know how to whistle! Never did and probably never will

4.     My natural hair is light brown and I have blonde highlights, I like it better lighter 

5.     I really, really hate my legs and they are always the major problem when taking photos for the blog

6.     Sometimes patients don’t believe I’m the doctor because I look so young and hardly believe my age (and believe me, that can be a problem!)

7.      I cannot leave my house without make up on, if I don't put at least foundation I feel naked. Weird, right?

Olá a todos! Hoje trago um post diferente, fui nomeada pela Marlene do Inspirations with M (já agora espreitem o blog fantástico dela!) para um desafio onde tenho de partilhar 7 factos sobre mim. E aqui estão:

1.     Sou uma grande nerd, adoro livros de aventuras, fantasia e ficção científica e agora graças ao meu namorado também jogo no computador com ele

2.     Eu uso óculos, mas odeio ver-me com eles. No dia-a-dia uso lentes de contacto e os óculos são só para andar por casa

3.     Eu não sei assobiar! Nunca consegui e provavelmente nunca aprenderei

4.     O meu cabelo natural é castanho claro e faço madeixas loiras desde há dois anos, gosto mais de o ver assim 

5.     Eu odeio mesmo, mesmo, mesmo as minhas pernas e são o grande problema a tirar fotos

6.     Por vezes os pacientes não acreditam que sou eu a médica e alguns não acreditam na minha idade (a acreditem, às vezes isso pode ser um problema!)

7.  É-me impossível sair de casa sem estar maquilhada. Se não puser base sinto-me nua. Estranho, não é?

College Chic

Hi everyone!
So the weekend is finally here and today was a beautiful sunny day around here! :) Let's just hope that it continues as good in the next two days.
I don't know if you have noticed but my style changes a lot with my state of mind and is very influenced by things I see, especially movies and TV shows. Today I was kind on a Gossip Girl mood. I don't really watch that show, just see parts of episodes when they watching TV and get clueless because the plot is always changing, but I really like the clothes they wear and their style. How about you, do you follow that show?
I have bought this skirt not too long ago, it's from Bershka's new A/W collection. I'm always on the look for new cute skirts and really love the tartan pattern on this one. So if you like it you can check it out its link at the end of the post! ;)

Já chegou o fim-de-semana e hoje esteve um belo dia de sol por aqui! :) Vamos esperar que se mantenha assim nos próximos dois dias!
Não sei se já repararam mas o meu estilo flutua muito consoante o meu estado de espírito e tem muitas influencias em coisas que vejo, especialmente filmes e séries. Hoje estava numa onda de Gossip Girl. Não sigo a série, mas às vezes apanho pedaços quando aparecem na TV e fico cada vez mais confusa porque a história está sempre a mudar, mas gosto muito de ver as roupas delas e acho que a série é uma boa fonte de inspiração. E vocês seguem a série?
Comprei esta saia há uns dias, é da nova coleção da Bershka. Eu estou sempre à procura de novas saias e adorei o padrão escocês desta. Se a quiserem ver online pus o link no final do post! ;)

Inspiration: How to dress to a rainny & warm day

Hi everyone! How are you?
Today we have an inspiration post. This last couple of day we are having a crazy bipolar weather here in Portugal, one minute it's sunny, the next comes a heavy rain, then it's hot, then it's windy... What to dress in these days? I have been at home during the mornings, but when I have to prepare for going out at the afternoon, I open my closet and I just stand there staring and completly clueless about what to wear. The other day I wore a warmer blouse and it was too hot, the next day I wore sandals and arrived home all soaking went. A think the solution here is boots, but light boots so our feet wont get too hot, with summery clothes. So I leave you with some suggestions to fight this crazy weather. Hope you like them! ;)

Olá a todos! Como estão?
Hoje trago-vos um post de inspiração. Estes últimos dias temos tido um tempo completamente bipolar por todo o país, ora faz sol, ora chove torrencialmente, ora faz calor, ora vem vento... O que vestir nestes dias? Eu tenho passado as manhãs a estudar por casa, mas quando tenho de sair de tarde, abro o meu armário, e fico completamente indecisa sobre o que vestir. Um dia pus uma blusa mais quente... e passei imenso calor, no dia a seguir fui de sandálias e fiquei encharcada. 
Acho que a solução passa por usar umas botas leves, que nos mantenham os pés secos e ao mesmo tempo não demasiado quentes. Assim que vos deixo aqui algumas sugestões para combater estas monções tropicais! Espero que gostem ;)

The Hat Hypothesis

Hi everyone! How are you?
So there I was at the movies the other day when I reached an interesting conclusion: any outfit can be improved by adding the right hat. Sounds basic, right? It's fashion 101, but at the same time, hats are not the most popular accessory and I for once had never imagined myself wearing a hat in winter, I didn't think of it as a day-to-day kind of detail but that all changed now and I'll tell you why.

I went with friends to see a Portuguese movie called "Os Maias" that takes place in the XIX, in Lisbon, and it follows the life and generations of a rich and important family. The story is based in a very important Portuguese book, from Eça de Queiroz, one of our greatest authors. So there I was enjoying the film, which is really great by the way, and as I always do in these kind of XVIII-XIX I was paying special attention to the clothes and am always fascinated about how well dressed they were back then. And then I came to a conclusion, it really helps when you accessorize all of yourself, hats, gloves, scarfs, laces, necklaces, rings, earrings... all put together gives the outfit a great polished touch.

There was this scene were there was taking place a really tense conversation between two characters, and a third one was leaving the room but couldn't find his hat. He re-entered the room 3 times, thus breaking the intense moment with comic relief, because he couldn't find his hat and could not leave the house without it. I found this particulary fascinating, the importance of one's head being exposed, why would that be, so when I arrived home did a little digging and found this:
"Men's hats were also used to claim and maintain, rather than to confuse, social status, as seen in the fact that specific types of hats became closely identified with particular social strata. Since men represented their families in public space, men's hats, rather than women's, were used to indicate the status of the family."

So when did the importance of the hat got lost? Nowadays we use it merely for a matter of fashion (with the exception of some careers) and it is very unusual to see someone other than fashionistas (and the occasional crazy person) wearing one, especially in winter. And that is a shame because hats really improve and outfit, are not really that expensive and can last a lifetime. 
So I decided to nourish my XIX inner self (because deep down I feel that I was meant to live somewhere in that time, ever happened to you?) and decided to buy a hat in my favorite fall color and here it is! :)
I wore this outfit yesterday and combined the hat with a skirt of the same color and my favorite shirt of the moment (is amazing how it goes with everything!). I had a family lunch, then went to the movies with my boyfriend and we ended the day taking these photos and enjoying the beautiful sunset (I hadn't seen one all week because of the rain!)

So get inspired, look for the best hat to wear this Autumn and rock it! ;)

Olá a todos! Como estão?
No outro dia cheguei a uma conclusão interesante enquanto estava no cinema, qualquer outfit fica melhor se adicionarmos o chapéu certo. Parece uma conclusão bastante básica, mas eu nunca tive um chapéu de Inverno e apesar de gostar de o ver noutras pessoas nunca me imaginei com um, não me parecia usável, mas tudo isso mudou. Há uns dias fui com amigos ver "Os Maias" ao cinema, e para quem gostou do livro recomendo ver o filme, eu gostei muito ;)
Então lá estava eu no cinema a apreciar o filme e como me acontece sempre nestes filmes de época presto muita atenção às roupas e quão bem se vestiam naqueles tempos. E depois cheguei a uma conclusão, faz uma grande diferença os acessórios com que nos enfeitamos, chapéus, lenços, cachecóis, luvas, colares, anéis, brincos... Pondo vários acessórios juntos e bem combinamos temos um outfit elegante e detalhado.

Há uma cena no filme onde ocorre uma conversa tensa e difícil entre duas personagens e há uma terceira que aparece na sala à procura do seu chapéu. Volta a re-aparecer duas vezes mais porque não encontra o seu chapéu e friza a importancia que é encontrá-lo e afirma ser-lhe impossível sair à rua sem o dito acessório. Achei este detalhe particularmente fascinante e o factor de importância que se dava naquele tempo a uma cabeça exposta, perguntei-me porque seria, e quando cheguei a casa pus-me a pesquisar e descobri isto:

Então quando é que se perdeu a importância dos chapéus? Hoje em dia os chapéus são um mero acessório (com excepção de algumas profissões) e não é comum ver pessoas com cabeça tapada, com exceção dos fashionistas (e do ocasional louco) especialmente no Inverno. E isso é realmente uma pena, porque os chapéus são acessórios não muito caros, versáteis e podem durar para toda a vida.

Assim que depois do filme o meu eu do século XIX (as vezes sinto que devia ter nascido nessa época, alguma vez vos aconteceu isso?) estava a chorar por um chapéus, assim que no dia seguinte me pus à procura e acabei por me apaixonar por este que é da parfois.
Usei este outfit ontem, tive um almoço de família, combinei o chapéu vermelho-vinho com uma saia da mesma cor e a minha blusa preferida, é branca e bordada e parece que combina com tudo! :) Depois do almoço fui ao cinema com o meu namorado e acabámos o dia a tirar estas fotos e a disfrutar do pôr-do-sol, do qual eu já tinha tantas saudades depois de uma semana inteira de chuvas torrenciais e nuvens cinzentas.

Espero ter-vos inspirado a usar ou comprar um chapéu este Inverno, combinei-no com as vossas peças preferidas de outono e brilhem! ;)

Boho Down the Road

Hi everyone!
The Sun is shinning again in this Saturday morning and I'm thinking about going to the beach to enjoy one last day at the sea. This Summer has been so gloomy that I barely went to the beach but however it wasn't nearly as bad as the summer in other European countries, so enough complaining.
About the outfit, I have warned it a coulpe days ago after leaving the beach and going for a walk. The dress is quite old but a favorite of mine and so is the denim shirt, that I wear all year non-stop, be rain or shine. When I put the two pieces together it kind of gave me a boho vibe, so I decided to add a scarf to a pop of color and making it more original. Enjoy the photos :)

O sol voltou para nos alegrar este sábado e estou a pensar ir até à praia e aproveitar um último dia no mar. Este verão esteve tão cinzento que a praia soube a pouco, mas ainda assim não foi tão mau como noutros países da Europa, assim que tenho de parar de me queixar.
Quanto ao outfit de hoje, usei-o há uns dias quando saí da praia para uma volta ao fim do dia. O vestido é antigo mas um dos meus favoritos e a camisa de ganga é das peças que mais uso no meu guarda-roupa, tanto no Inverno como no Verão. Quando conjuguei os dois achei que ficavam com um ar a puxar para o boho, então pus este lenço para dar um pouco de cor e originalidade! :)

A song of two tones... And a contest!

Hi everyone! How are you today?
Today I have a little story for you about this outfit.
Imagine a world where there are only two colors: black and white. Imagine that we live inside of a black and white movie, and all there is between these two colors are all the different shades of grey.
How would this world be? More beautiful, more inspiring...? You feel more free to express yourself with just two colors or with all of the rainbow?
Sometimes I think that having just two colors would be boring as hell... But then I remember that the lesser we have the more creative we become. Each shade of grey would have its own meaning, we would see each and every one of them, and each and every one would sound more beautiful and more intense ever. It would be like a piano song, when you have all the keys the music is really complex, but you only see the melody... But with only three notes... Each of them gets a new meaning and become so important that playing just one becomes a all.
I though a lot about all of this last week, so I decided to do an outfit like a black&white movie, and suddenly all the shades of white and grey became different and unique and and outfit that as suppose to be boring... Really shined! :)

Olá a todos! Como estão?
Hoje tenho uma pequenina história para contar acerca deste outfit.
Imaginem um mundo onde só existem duas cores: preto e branco. Imaginem que vivemos dentro de um filme a preto e branco e tudo o que existe entre os dois são todas as diferentes tonalidades de cinzento.
Como seria este mundo? Mais bonito, mais inspirador...?
Sentes-te mais livre de te expressares apenas com duas cores ou com todo o arco-íris?
Às vezes penso que viver num mundo com apenas duas cores seria demasiado aborrecido... Mas depois lembro-me de que quanto menos temos, mais criativos nos tornamos. 
Neste Mundo, cada tonalidade de cinzento ganharia o seu próprio significado, veríamos cada tom e cada sombra e cada um teria mais beleza e mais intensidade. Seria como uma música de piano... Quando tocamos com todas as teclas a música é tão complexa que só ouvimos a melodia, mas com apenas 3 notas... Cada uma delas ganha um novo significado e torna-se tão importante que tocada sozinha se torna um todo.
Pensei muito sobre isto na semana passada e decidi fazer um outfit de filme a preto e branco e enquanto escolhia as peças, cada tonalidade de branco e cinzento ressaltava e se tornava única e um look que podia parecer aborrecido... Acho que conseguiu brilhar! :)
